GRUPOTALCA (Martín del Solar and Rodrigo Sheward) is an architecture firm which goal is to think and do architecture in areas of the society where “architects usually don’t work”. Founded in 2003 while the partners where studying college at the University of Talca, in Chile. GrupoTalca is characterized by working with local processes using the existent resources and traditions of the communities they are serving. They focus on doing works in outlying suburbs or in rural communities using a participatory design process in which the architects work closely with local individuals and end users.
GrupoTalca has develop works in Chile and Latin America (Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Mexico) with a huge social impact in diverse areas such as tourism, housing and public space.
Also, they have won awards in important architecture contests, such as YAP_CONSTRUCTO (“The Young Architects Program”) in 2014 and the International Committee of Architectural Critics (CICA) for young architect in 2015. In 2016, they would be part of the oficial team in the Venecia architecture biennal.
GrupoTalca is constantly expanding into new fields of actions. At this moment they are doing different public and private projects, and local developments with vulnerable communities.
